53. Star Trek Destiny: Gods of Night by David Mack – This is book 1 of the trilogy in which the Federation’s final defeat of the Borg is written and revealed. And, if that wasn’t a big enough project for the authors, there’s a whole new species and fun complications… and that’s just in book 1! Finishing this volume kept me from knitting this morning and my curiosity about book 2 is likely to keep me not knitting. (finished 9/6)
54. Star Trek Destiny: Mere Mortals by David Mack – Book 2 of the trilogy, this volume covers hundreds of years and ends with the Federation in peril like never before. A great cliffhanger! I’m so glad I already had book 3 in my possession before I finished book 2. (Have I ever mentioned how I hate to be stuck in the middle of a series for months or, in rare cases, years before the sequel/conclusion comes out? Yeah, I thought I might’ve.) Excellent work, Mr Mack! (finished 9/13)
55. Star Trek Destiny: Lost Souls by David Mack – This is the final book in the Destiny trilogy, the one in which the Borg are finally defeated… and in an inventive, yet wholly believable, fashion. Mack laid the seeds in book one, with a trip to the early years of Earth’s post-warp space exploration (before the Federation was established) and the introduction of a new species. Other time jumps explain the genesis of the Borg, again in a believable and logical plot development. The personal lives of the major characters are further complicated and revealed. And the resolution is so satisfying! Highly recommended. (finished 9/21)
56. Death by Cashmere by Sally Goldenbaum – Fun chick lit for knitters, with a little murder thrown in for texture. (finished 9/26)
