Lookit what I got in the mail late last week:

I won!
I almost never win anything, so I was surprised to find out my name had been drawn to receive free yarn from Barbara Bretton, who is one of the contributors to Romancing the Yarn.
Barbara sent me two skeins of elann’s Silken Kydd, which is a 70/30 mix of “super kid” mohair and silk. Each 25g skein has 232 yards of the most lovely lilac laceweight! (elann’s oh-so-imaginative name for the colorway is 06. Really. Oh, well, good thing they make better yarn than they do yarn names, yes?)
Barbara also tucked a bookmark and refrigerator magnet for her soon-to-be released novel Laced with Magic and an extra ‘frig magnet for another of her books, Casting Spells, which came out in 2008. The books appear to include magic and yarn and cats, judging by the cover art, and I’m for sure planning to read them both.
Thanks a million, Barbara!
Score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just won this same yarn from Barbara, except mine’s a dark teal. I’m at a loss as to what I’m going to make, though. What are you thinking of?
Perhaps an Ice Queen cowl (from Knitty.com), if that’s the right name for that pattern. Or perhaps a lacy scarf. I think I have enough to make a whole shawl, but I’d never wear it, so it would be a waste.
