The BC19 tells me that he got up the other morning and found a yarn mess on the floor. It was my new “prize” yarn, the elann.com Silken Kydd, and someone had left it in less-than-pristine condition in the living room floor.
(Warning: The following picture may disturb those of you with sensitive, um, sensibilities.)
It looked like this, only on the floor, rather than on my battered desktop:

Gasp! I know!
How the heck did this happen? When last I’d seen it, it was right were I’d left it: in a plastic baggie, behind some random stuff, in a not-quite-closed cardboard box, on top of my printer, on (you guessed it) the same battered desk pictured above. Wanna see?
(The next two pictures were recreated for illustrative purposes.)
First, the long-ish shot:

See it there?
Next, the closeup, with the box held open:

See better now?
Soooo, how did the bagged-up, mostly hidden, lovely yarn migrate out of the box, down off the desk, onto the floor, out of the bag and into a silken pile about 10 feet away? Hm… I wonder.
Perhaps this is a clue:

"Who, me?"
Yep, Smut jumped up on the desk about 30 minutes after I took the earlier pics and started sniffing around.
Conclusive, no.
Suspicious, oh yes.
In truth, I don’ t think Smut was really interested in the yarn, as it was mostly still intact. In fact, one of the skeins was virtually untouched. The furry man does, however, have a distinct fondness for plastic baggies. He pulls them off surfaces and out of bags (purses, knitting bags, etc.), just so he can empty them out and then play with them. I think the yarn was just in the wrong place at the right time.
Or else Chewie (the cat formerly known as Alfie) is really good at making Smut look guilty. Like my sister did to me when we were kids. And my other sister did. And my baby bro did. Yep, could just be a sibling thing.
But I doubt it.
In truth, I’ll never know for sure.
Even so, I’m putting the yarn out of harm’s way and counting this as a lesson learned.
Anybody want to reskein it for me?
Anyone at all?
Yeah, I didn’t think so.
Sigh.
I thought I was the only one who had cats who were obsessed with plastic bags–mine will lick/chew on them until the noise drives me nuts!!
OMG!!!!! The horror!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor… poor… yarn.
This really calls for an LOLcat icon.. I CAN HAZ BAG NAO, PLZ?
Mine will pee on plastic bags left on the floor, but bags put away fortunately do not attract her. Paper, on the other hand, was made to be shredded and the bits scattered from one end of the household to the other. Photo emulsion will be licked off the backing (guess what else we don’t leave lying around- we really think it’s probably not good for her). And she *loves* anything sticky. Once returning late from a trip we forgot to clean off our bags. Result, sticky luggage tags, yum, yum… One of them was half-eaten, the other completely disappeared. Fortunately it doesn’t seem to have done her any harm!
