by Alex Kava – This, book 5 in the Maggie O’Dell series, was a terrific read! In this deliciously long read, the crime involves child-molesting priests who are being assassinated for the sex crimes they committed and got away with. Several women have also been murdered in the DC area, in what may be related crimes, including Maggie’s best friend Gwen’s receptionist. The story gets more complicated when the “real” bad guy from book 1 in the series (a priest who framed two others well enough to get away with a series of child murders) is targeted by the priest-killing avenger… and he turns to Maggie for help and protection. The twists keep coming, as Maggie comes up against her own rage and moral code, leading to a perfect ending. Or is it? Will Maggie have to deal with repercussions (repercussions in the sense of more killings) in future books?
This is the best of the O’Dell books so far. Kava is fast becoming one of my favorite crime writers. Let’s hope she keeps ‘em coming. (finished 6/29/11)
