Pattern: Twisted Pumpkin Hat from Charmed Knits by Alison Hansel
Yarn: Bernat Satin Sport in Wine. Amount unknown, as I used up a remnant from one skein and needed just a dozen or so yards from another skein to finish the decreases.
Needle: US size 4 circular, using Magic Loop technique (rather than DPNs)
Modifications: I knit the first 3 rows in stockinette, rather than in reverse stockinette, so the brim would roll up and out. I also didn’t knit the little “pumpkin stem” on the top, choosing instead to end the decrease section with row 11. (If you want to knit the stem, you do rows 12-13 3 times before binding off.)
A fairly easy knit, but it does require you to keep track of what row you’re on. Even though the main part of the hat has only a two-row pattern, it’s surprisingly easy (for me, anyway) to get confused about which of those two rows I’m on. The result is a cute hat that looks way more difficult to knit than it is.
