For my MIL!
Yarn: JaggerSpun Zephyr in garnet (color #5549). The yarn is 50% Chinese tussah silk, 50% merino. There are 630 yards in each 2-oz skein. I used about 318 yards.
Needle: US size 2 circ.
Length (before blocking) 27 inches, (after blocking): 31 inches. Width: 7 inches
Pattern: None. I improvised, starting with a few rows of garter stitch, then using two repeats of the feather-and-fan stitch pattern per row, with a few garter stitches on either side. When the piece reached the desired length, I made 3 YO-style buttonholes across the end, then knit about 5 more rows, before casting off knitwise.
Also, I always slip the first stitch of each row purlwise, to give a nice edge.
I placed 3 buttons across the cast-on end (after the garter-stitch section), so my MIL can wear it as a continuous loop, if she desires. I also placed 2 more buttons across the bottom edge, at a right angle to the original 3, so she can wear it with one front edge lapped over the other, if she prefers.
(Knitting completed in December 2011. Finishing completed 1/12/12)
