by Charles de Lint – I really enjoyed this YA novel by de Lint. The main characters, best friends and social outcasts in their Newford-area high school, are drawn into a world of trouble when the school’s ghost and fairies begin to interact with them. The interactions go from fairly benign to downright lethal before the novel ends.
De Lint tells the story from the POVs of the ghost and the two girls, giving the reader the opportunity to get to know and care about each of them. Their existences will never be the same, as magic and myth leave indelible marks on them.
A quick, easy read with emotional resonance, The Blue Girl is a terrific addition to the Newford canon. Highly recommended. (finished 3/31/2012)
