Yarn: about 260 yards (75+ g) of Bernat Baby Jacquards Florals in the Petunia colorway
Needle: US size 1 or 2 circular (I don’t remember which)
Pattern: Eyelet Yoke Baby Cardigan by Carole Barenys
Size: 3-6 months, I think
Buttons: Le Bouton, sold at Wal*Mart, 1/2 inch. 4 to a card. I used 4 on this sweater and 1 more on each of the baby janes that match this.
Mods: I used smaller needles and smaller yarn to make an infant-sized version of this pattern. I also made it with short sleeves. After finishing the sweater, I decided I didn’t like how the edge on the buttonhole side of the faux buttonband looked, as it looked too loose and wavy to me. To combat that, I used a small crochet hook and made a reinforcing slip-stitch line of stitches from the bottom (above the darker purple border) to the top of the yoke (below the darker purple border). I used a section of the yarn that was the lightest purple and put the stitches immediately adjacent to the outer edge of the buttonband. The result is a firmer, less “wambly” buttonband edge.
