Or maybe that should be “What? A pair of boobs?”
Look what I knit over the weekend:
Based on a crochet pattern someone showed me, which leads to an Etsy page that advises it’s no longer available in the original form. (Here are some other similar results I found on Etsy.) The hats are meant to express support for breastfeeding moms. The idea is that the baby would be wearing the hat while nursing, and someone seeing it would perhaps do a double-take, then realize it’s not an actual bare breast and perhaps laugh at the silliness of it and ask the mom about it. The resulting conversation could help open someone’s eyes to the benefits of breastfeeding. And if we can all share a little laugh at the absurdity of arguing over something so natural and healthy, we can all benefit.
As you can kind of see in my pair here, the nipples are not identical. That’s ’cause I
messed up made a design change for the second hat, when I decreased a couple of extra stitches somewhere in the pink (heh, heh!) and ended up with 6 stitches, rather than the 8 I knit on the first hat. The resulting nipple is pointier and tighter.
Here’s a side-by-side view of the hats:
I plan to make a few more, as a number of my until-recently pregnant declared they wanted one. And I gave Evalee’s to her mom this morning at work, to her delight. I look forward to getting a photo or two soon to share with you.
My “pattern” is in the FO links for the hats. Feel free to make your own… and share the photos, of course!
