by Chuck Wendig – At stake: the future of mankind, heaven and hell. The ingredients: Take every religion and pantheon ever known to mankind, exile them on Earth. Then add in just a few of the humans they have manipulated and played with, including a child in an unnatural coma, his desperate mom, his forgotten dad, and a man who is intent on killing some of those gods for reasons of his own. Shake things up regularly, so the reader never feels “safe.” The result is a bloody good read. And I do mean bloody.
Chuck Wendig has written a near-perfect first book in the Gods and Monsters series. He has set a high bar for the other authors who will explore this universe in later novels. My hope: he’ll write more here, too.
Not for those who are offended by “purple” language, polytheism, blood and gore, and the fictional possibility that God isn’t exactly like the Bible depicts him.
For the rest of us: read on! You’ll love it. (finished 9/12/13)
