by Lisa Gardner – An excellent read, although the designation (“Detective D.D. Warren, book 1”) is somewhat misleading. While it may be the first of Gardner’s books to feature Warren, that detective is far from the lead character. In fact, her role is definitely secondary, with no POV chapters at all, if memory serves. (It often doesn’t, though, so forgive me if I’m wrong there.)
The lead character is Bobby Dodge, a sniper-team member and trooper with the Massachusetts State Police. It’s his life that is thrown into turmoil in this book, as well as that of wife of the man Dodge is forced to shoot early in our story.
The novel is filled with twists and dark secrets, violence and uncertainty. It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride, for sure, one I’m glad I went on. Highly recommended. (finished 7/13/14)
